Humble independence

At Three Peaks school, our goal is not to cultivate independence in the sense of self-sufficiency, but rather to nurture growing maturity and self-government under the lordship of Christ. We desire to see children take increasing responsibility for their work, choices, and relationships, while remaining humble, teachable, and mindful of the needs of others. True maturity is demonstrated not through a determination to "do it myself," but through the ability to exercise self-discipline, serve faithfully, and contribute positively to the community around them. True, humble independence is only found through a submission and dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Stories from the week

In Gardens Nook preschool, humble independence is viewed as an essential part of our children's growth. Young children are  capable of meaningful work and worthy of the respect that comes from being entrusted with responsibility. By allowing children to dress themselves, care for their belongings, make simple choices, and participate in the daily life of the classroom, we nurture their willingness towards independence. But humble independence is not hurried or forced, it's gently cultivated through an atmosphere of trust, where children are given both the freedom to try and the time to succeed.

At Three Peaks school, our approach towards humble independence is no different. Children are encouraged to put mind and heart into what they do and how they do it. Rather than working solely for praise or reward, they begin to recognise the value of doing what is right because it is right, because it is how we ought to live with one another. True independence is therefore not rooted in self-sufficiency or selfish ambition. It is cultivated through humility and a thoughtful consideration of those around us.

Something to ponder...

" Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much."
