Tenderness and care

Every year, Three Peaks School sets apart a special morning in recognition of the elderly among us. In a culture where the elderly are often ignored or marginalised, it is essential that we train our children to see them as persons deserving of respect and dignity. We are called to look after them, love them, and include them in the rhythms of our lives.

Grandparents' Day is a special opportunity through which our elderly are invited to share in the lives and joys of our children. They are reminded of the sweetness present in young children that so often brings smiles and lifts the heart. As our elderly soak in the beauty of youth, our children learn the value of tenderness and care towards those more frail than themselves. When children truly learn to see the elderly as persons, they will be moved to cherish them in years to come.

Stories from the week

Our Gardens Nook children are wonderful reminders of the importance of exploration and discovery. Their small bodies are well equipped to engage with their worlds through play, observation, and touch. Once curiosity is stimulated, further investigation follows, encouraging a search for deeper knowledge. The children come to know their world, and when they know their world, they form important relationships with plants, rocks, animals, and each other. This is education!

Within our classrooms at Three Peaks school, children are presented with concepts and ideas from various fields of study. When invited into the lives of our past, or asked to test the theories of mathematicians and scientists, they are eager to immerse themselves in ways of knowing, asking questions, exploring lands, and coming to know people. Studying the works of great artists and reproducing their style and technique brings children to understand the mind of the artist whilst strengthening skill and forming characters marked by thoughtfulness, sensitivity, and care.

Community notes

Principals retreat

Over the past few days, I've had the wonderful opportunity of attending Ambleside's annual principals retreat. Coming alongside those who lead sister Ambleside schools is both enriching and inspiring. We get to share in each others joys, memorable moments, and trials as we pray for one another, encourage one another with Scripture and philosophy, and spend time together over meals and walks. The Lord is working in these schools and it's a privilege being part of Ambleside.

Grandparents & special persons day

We finally get to enjoy sharing our children's hard work with our beloved elderly. Delicious treats, tea and coffee will be provided, and hopefully some beautiful sunshine will grace us. Thank you for all those assisting in making this morning special. Looking forward to seeing our special guests on Monday morning.

Assessment week

Assessments for our grade 1-7 children will take place from 1-5 June. This is an important week in our school calendar, as it presents a window into all that our children have learnt and delighted in. To support your children during this period, please carefully read the attached letter to parents.

Market

We will be running our annual Spring market towards the end of October. If you would like to run a stall, please contact Philippa at info-@threepeaks.org.za.

Parent Internship Invitation

If you would like to delve deeper into what makes an Ambleside education truly unique, you may want to consider attending The Vine School's upcoming parent nternship day.

Prayer

Coming weekly to the Lord, we commit the following to Him in prayer:

  • our community who have been severely impacted by the storm
  • our beloved elderly as they attend grandparents/special persons day
  • our children's readiness for assessment week

Something to ponder...

"Children are born with all the curiosity they will ever need. It will last a lifetime if they are fed upon a daily diet of ideas."

- Charlotte M Mason-

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
