An inherited treasury of knowledge
|
Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci once stated that "painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen." Da Vinci understood the power of thought hidden within works of art and poetry alike. He could appreciate the intricate stories woven in the lyrical lines on pages and the masterful strokes on paintings. He could hear the poet speak and see the artist work, coming to know them by character and style. What a gift inherited; a treasury of works that convey history, people, experiences, and discoveries. Imparting this wealth of knowledge to our children is both a duty and a much appreciated privilege.

On one sunny morning in Gardens Nook, children gathered around to study the work by Dutch painter, Jan van Os. In his painting, "Flowers and Fruit in a Terracotta Vase," Os portrays a vibrant display of flowers and fruits assembled as a spectacular arrangement of colour and life. Hidden among the delicate petals lie little insects waiting to be found. Children delighted in searching his masterpiece, scanning the page for little mice, dark moths, and resting butterflies.

During Picture Study in our grade 2 class, Three Peaks children studied the works of Pieter Breugel, the Elder, a Flemish renaissance artist. In his work, "Haymaking", Breugel depicts the day to day rhythms of country folk back in 1565. Observing dress, tools, work power, and activities, we gain insight into the lives of these people who, although over four hundred years old, contributed to a society and developments that we now learn from.
In our higher grade 6&7 class, children have been working well to organise content from their history book, "Struggle for Sea Power". After careful planning and consideration, compositions are being written with care. Further, in Geography lessons, diagrams of river erosion and land formations clearly depict earth change and structure. Learning is taking place, every moment of every day.

Grandparents & special persons day

We will be celebrating our grandparents & elderly special persons on Monday, 11 May. Recognising the important role that our elderly play in the lives of our children is worthy of celebration. We would love to spoil them with tea and treats, whilst they get to enjoy some recitations, songs, and work displays by our children.
To reserve attendance, please follow this link. Only two reservations are permitted per family.

Coming weekly to the Lord, we commit the following to Him in prayer:
- guidance over our children and sensitivity towards their needs
- our teachers in the good work they do
- struggling families within our school community

"We cannot measure the influence that one or another artist has upon the child's sense of beauty, upon his power of seeing, as in a picture, the common sights of life; he is enriched more than we know in having really looked at even a single picture."

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
